The Increased Soft Power of the African Arts and its Impact on the Continent

African art and culture are spearheading a new movement and creating productive business ventures and exhibitions across the world.

The world and new generations are witnessing how arts and culture are now showcasing a celebration of the visual and cultural landscape of contemporary African photography and how new exhibitions across the world offer critical insight from the perspectives of Africa's leading artists and thinkers and emphasise how African art is now lucrative enough to drive a high number of visitors and neophytes alike.

On the show, Our guest Zohra Opoku, an international artist sheds more light on The increased soft power of the African arts and its Impact on the continent.

Zohra, a German and Ghanaian artist, who lives and works in Accra, Ghana) examines the politics of personal identity formation through historical, cultural, and socio-economic influences, particularly in the context of contemporary Ghana.

Opoku's explorations have been mostly through the lens of her camera; her photography is expressed through screen-printing and alternative photo processing on varieties of natural fabrics. While her work relays social commentary and broadly relevant themes around the human experience, each of Zohra’s explorations is intimately rooted in personal identity politics.
